Infectious Diseases

Status:

The Congo Basin Institute works on a wide variety of tropical diseases. With a focus on zoonotic diseases and the dynamics of spillover between animals and humans. Our research explores the links between biodiversity, genetic diversity, socio-economic factors, and disease transmission. We use field-based empirical data to generate mathematical models that improve our ability to predict when and how diseases will jump from animals to humans–and how to prevent or mitigate diseases, especially under climate change. Some of these diseases we work on include Ebola, Zika, West Nile, monkeypox, Influenza, and avian malaria.
